Dark Gates PC

Dark Gates is the debut project of the independent DFourGames, founded in 2010 by Bartosz Debski. The game is a computer adaptation of the popular Citadel of Blood by Eric Smith.

The action of the game is set in the fantasy reality. In the dungeons of the Citadel of Blood, forces of evil lurk in the shadows, and terrorize the inhabitants of the surrounding lands. The people wait for the adventurers who will fight those vile creatures and destroy the Black Gates guarded by a powerful mage.

The player controls a group of heroes willing to face the forces of evil. The game starts with creating a six-member party. Just like in the original, the characters are characterized by a set of simple attributes, and also each has a set of specific skills which help in achieving victory if used properly.

The gameplay is based on two key elements – the exploration of randomly generated dungeon and fighting enemies. The latter is turn-based. The key to victory is using the right tactic and positioning of the party. Awards include experience points, gold or random items (armor, weapons, potions and so on).

Dark Gates has simple but esthetic graphics. The 2D graphics is hand-drawn which makes the game much more similar to traditional pen & pencil RPGs.
