Flying Corps is an airplane simulator that takes players to the realities of World War I and allows them to take part in air battles fought in France between 1917-18. The British Rowan Software studio, which specializes in simulation games, is responsible for the creation of the game. Flying Corps draws patterns from popular aviation games such as Red Baron, Knights of the Sky and more arcade Wings.

Production offers us four extensive campaigns, partly based on historical events. The Flying Circus and Battle of Cambrai play the events of 1917, while Spring Offensive and Hat in the Ring play out in the last months of World War I. Depending on your preferences we can embody the skin of a German, British or American pilot and check in action the most famous machines from this period, such as Sopwith Camel, Nieuport Scout, SPAD S.XIII, Fokker Dr.I or Albatros D.III. In addition, we can take part in 8 unrelated missions of increasing difficulty, which are perfect for training purposes.

The scope of our missions is very wide - from patrols aimed at "sweeping" airspace from enemy machines, to bombardment of enemy positions, attacks on ground targets, destruction of observation balloons, etc. The scope of our missions is very wide - from patrols aimed at "sweeping" airspace from enemy machines, to bombardment of enemy positions, attacks on ground targets, destruction of observation balloons, etc. During the warfare we may be injured and spend a few days on the ground, or end our lives in an uncontrolled corkscrew and explosion flash. We can also test ourselves as a squadron commander, assigning pilots to particular missions, setting up the squadron array, and so on.

Flying Corps is aimed at both hardcore computer simulation fans and beginner players. The authors left us a very wide range of possibilities to configure the realism of the game, including the so-called "blackout", i.e. temporary loss of sight or even consciousness during overloads. We can turn immortality on or off and decide, for example, whether our machine should react to air currents or gusts of wind generated by a propeller.

The production of Rowan Software is characterized by an excellent setting. The game carefully rendered the sounds of engines, as well as the effects of shots, ricochets, bomb explosions and explosions. Three-dimensional graphics accurately reflect the actual terrain around Verdun and the Somma River and are enriched with many visual effects, taking advantage of the latest graphics cards. Owners of more powerful machines can run the game even at a resolution of 1600x1200. The support for a wide range of controllers dedicated to aeronautical simulators has not been forgotten either. It is worth noting that the later reissue of the game, released under the name of Flying Corps Gold - apart from a number of add-ons has also been enriched with support for 3Dfx graphics accelerators.
