Titan Invasion for PlayStation Vita is a compilation of two titles – Titan Attacks! And Revenge of the Titans – created by an independent British studio Puppy Games. The first game is a two-dimensional retro shooter, while the second one is a complex tower defense game, containing an extended and challenging singleplayer campaign. Both titles have been released on PC in 2012 and 2011, respectively. The conversion to PlayStation consoles was handled by Curve Digital, a studio specializing in console conversions of popular indie titles. The authors of the conversion previously handled projects such as Proteus, The Swapper, Thomas Was Alone, or Stealth Inc.. All versions of Titan Invasion have been adapted for a console gamepad or for Vita buttons, the interface has been reworked, while the game itself now runs at 60 frames per second.
Titan Attacks! is a two-dimensional shooter, heavily inspired by the classic Space Invaders. The player assumes the role of a commander of the last tank on Earth, with a tough task ahead – save the planet from hordes of aliens. For the planet to live another day, we need to shoot down enemy groups appearing high above us, simultaneously moving to the sides to avoid being hit. During the campaign, consisting of 100 levels, we visit Earth, Moon, Mars, Saturn, and the titular Titan, which is an operational base for the aliens. Our tank can receive upgrades to its firepower and durability by catching bonuses and power-ups.
Revenge of the Titans is a classic tower defense title. The gameplay focuses on building various types of towers armed with laser cannons, which repel the waves of invading aliens. There are over a dozen available structures, with each of them effectively disposes of a certain type of Titan. Our adversary can send a horde of smaller units, as well as an occasional larger colossus, whose disposing of may prove troublesome. Details of the imminent invasion can be found in a rudimentary briefing before each mission. The second important element is gathering cash, which is spent on building new objects. To maintain our lifeline, we need to build refineries extracting and processing valuable resources located around the map. Between the missions we can develop new technologies that will translate to improving our defense line, as well as more powerful weaponry and new structures.
