Toukiden Kiwami

Toukiden Extreme, released on PSP, PC, etc., is an extended version of Toukiden: The Age of Demons, third-person hack'n'slash originally released in 2013 on PSP and PS Vita. The game was created by a Japanese studio Omega Force (Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors) specializing in this genre.

Plot

The plot of Toukiden Extreme takes us to a fantastical land which borrows a lot from Japanese history and mythology. It fell victim to demons called Oni, who, crawling from the underground world, conquered most of the human settlements and cities. The action throws players into the very center of the war that has been going on for several years, known as Awakening, and allows them to take on the role of one of the elite warriors called upon to fight demons.

Mechanics

The gameplay boils down to exploring and talking to the characters we meet, who give us quests. The core of the game, however, are dynamic duels with hosts of demons, fought with the use of an extensive combat system, which allows for effective combinations. You can choose the weapon that suits you best, which during the game - like any other equipment - can be further improved by using the services of a blacksmith or the power flowing from the souls of the fallen heroes. Duels with powerful bosses are especially demanding - defeating them usually boils down to finding weak points of the demon.

Compared to the basic version of the game, the developers expanded the storyline, introducing additional plotlines and a number of new tasks to perform. The game also features two new heroes with their new skills and additional weapons, including firearms and a special version of the Japanese sword called naginata. We also face almost twice as many demons. Just like in the original, Toukiden Extreme allows you to play co-operative with up to 4 players.
