Decay is a horror-driven, episodic point-and-click adventure game. The title is the debut of the Swedish independent studio Shining Gate Software and appeared exclusively on the Xbox 360 as part of the Xbox Live Indie Games program.

The action of the game begins when a player-controlled character hangs in his own bathroom, trying to commit suicide. After a while, however, it turns out that she did not die. Some mysterious force forces him to return to life and face the chilling mystery in his veins. In the course of the game, you will have to travel through a number of familiar - and at the same time quite alien rooms and corridors, facing your own fear, intensified by the mysterious sounds and the steps coming from behind our backs.

In terms of mechanics, the Decay gameplay resembles such series as Resident Evil or Silent Hill, which were the main inspiration for the creators. The main difference, however, is the fact that the game abandoned arcade elements, putting one hundred percent on the ubiquitous atmosphere of horror and overwhelming climate. Knowing that we are not threatened with death by a suddenly jumping monster, we can focus on what is most important in the game of Swedes. We are dealing with a classic point-and-click adventure, whose main element is exploration, collecting objects and solving puzzles. The whole project was realized in the first-person perspective and enriched with an average but atmospheric graphic design and a dark soundtrack, which intensifies the dark mood.

A commendable feature is the control model, which adapts a gaming-like control scheme with the mouse to the capabilities of an analogue console controller. Decay is divided into four separate episodes, which were made available as part of the Xbox Live service between May 2010 and April 2011. The closing series of episode 4 brings with it several alternative endings, allowing players to decide how their story ends.
