The PS4 release of Super Stardust Ultra is the fourth installment in the arcade game series, in which a player assumes the role of a starship pilot tasked with defending the humanity against the alien threat. Initially, the game has been released in 2007 on PlayStation 3. Soon after, both PSP and PSV versions have become available on the market. Super Stardust Ultra has been developed by D3T in cooperation with XDEV.

Mechanics

Players get to pilot a small spaceship flying through a 3D spheres that surround each of the visited planets. One's objective is to eliminate the hostile alien forces as well as to destroy enormous meteors. Like in other classic shoot'em up games, in the PS4 release of Super Stardust Ultra a player controls his ship with the analog sticks, allowing him to move his vessel and target the enemy units at the same time. During the game, a player is bound to face not only some minor opponents but also powerful bosses. Apart from gathering as many points as possible, a player can collect various power-ups including protective shields and bombs.

Game modes

The developers have prepared nine game modes – some of them are dedicated for 4-player multiplayer battles, either cooperative or competitive. Interestingly enough, because the game is integrated with PlayStation 4's social functionalities, players can stream their playthrough, while the viewers can affect the game by typing commands in a chat window. The game also delivers standard ranking boards, on which players can compare their scores.

Technical aspects

To top it all, the game features the resolution of 1080p and runs at stable 60 FPS. Additionally, the developers have prepared a number of new elements and visual effects that were impossible to implement in the previous installments of this series.
