Interstellaria is a retro sandbox space strategy game with simulator and RPG elements. The title is the second (after Bitcrobes – an iOS exclusive) project of the Cold Rice Games indie studio, the production was partially funded by its Kickstarter campaign.

In Interstellaria we play as the captain of a spaceship and it is our task to gather a crew for our space adventures. During the playthrough we have to maintain good relations with our crewmembers, man all of the key stations on our vessel and keep our equipment operational. While exploring the nooks and crannies of the universe we can also engage in trade, diplomacy or war with various races we encounter along the way. The exploration of distant planets is one of the more developed aspects of the production, each of the worlds you visit is an uncharted, vast area with valuable findings, challenging puzzles and hostile aliens.

The title combines the elements of multiple genres, including strategy, adventure and platform games, space simulators and classic cRPGs. Thanks to such a wide range of possibilities, the production of the Cold Rice studio can definitely be classed as one of the more difficult games. Mastering the key gameplay mechanics requires a lot of experience and may prove to be a great challenge, even to the video game veterans.

One of the main ambitions of the developers was to revitalize the old-school productions from the ‘80s and ‘90s which, despite their primitive graphics, attracted countless gamers with their complex gameplay and the sheer wealth of possibilities. Interstellaria has been simultaneously expanded with a number of mechanics which could be considered standard for modern day titles (e.g. sandbox elements); however, the old-school 2D pixel-art graphic style and the simplistic soundtrack have remained unaltered.
