Fire Emblems Fate: Birthright for 3DS is another entry in a popular series of tactical jRPG games established in 1990. It is also the second title of the franchise to appear on 3DS handheld, after Fire Emblem: Awakening (2012). It has been developed by Intelligent System studio, owned by Nintendo company.

Plot

The story of the game is divided into two paths – Hoshido and Nohr, each available in one version of the game (Birthright and Conquest respectively). Both let players take control of Corrin (default name of main character, but it can be changed along with look and gender), who – depending on the version – will side with one of factions, which is Hoshido in case of Birthright.

Game mechanics

Gameplay in Fire Emblems Fate: Birthright for 3DS follows what we could see in Fire Emblem: Awakening, focusing on exploration locations and fighting in turn-based battles against Nohr’s warriors on vast maps. There is also character development system, obviously linked to experience points we gather during journey. What sets apart this version from Conquest is more accessible gameplay, as we can take on Challenge Maps to earn experience and money – an option that is unavailable in the second edition.

Miscellaneous

Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright is a full-scale game, with a detailed plot and characters. However, if players want to side with other faction and learn a somewhat different story (though with the same characters), they can buy Conquest as add-on with a discount.
