Wolfenstein: The Old Blood

A stand-alone expansion to Wolfenstein: The New Order, the game released on PCs and eighth generation consoles in spring 2014. Similarly as the original game, the title was created by Machine Games in cooperation with Bethesda. The game is a prequel to the basic game. The story takes place in an alternative year 1946, in which the Nazis are one step from winning the World War II. During the campaign, which is split into two parts, the protagonist of the series, B.J. Blazkovicz, goes to Bavaria, where he must steal information about the location of a secret research facility from the Wolfenstein fortress. Further into the game the player goes to a small city of Wulfburg, in which a German archeologist digs out mysterious artifacts that can unleash ancient evil powers. The gameplay and graphics of the game are similar as in the basic title. The only novelty is a set of new weapons.

This is Wolfenstein: The New Order expansion pack.

The Old Blood is the first expansion for Wolfenstein: The New Order, a well-received FPP shooter released on PC in 2014. It was developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda Softworks, just like the original game. What’s important, it is a standalone production that can be played without The New Order.

The add-on is a prequel to The New Order and a nod to the fans of the series. The game takes place in 1946, when the Germans were at the edge of winning the World War II. The mini-campaign takes us to Bavaria and is divided into two parts. In the first one, B. J. Blazkowicz sneaks into the castle Wolfenstein to steal the coordinates that reveal the location of general Deathshead’s research station. In the second part, the search for intelligence data leads the protagonist to the town of Wulfburg, where a mad German archeologist unearths mysterious artifacts that could potentially release ancient evil powers. The experiments goes awry so Blazkowicz not only has to fight the enemy soldiers, but also Nazi zombies. We will be blasting both with completely new weapons as well as the old ones.

As far as graphics are concerned, the PC version of The Old Blood does not significantly deviate from what we know from The New Order. It is still a very attractive production powered by id Tech 5 engine.
