Nova-111 is an unusual action adventure game for PS3, WiiU and etc. that combines elements of platformer and turn-based strategy productions. The title was developed by Funktronic Labs.

Plot

The campaign’s plot revolves around the effects of an experiment conducted by 111 ingenious scientists who came from an alternate universe where time flows in turns. According to their theory, success was supposed to let them discover the real-time reality. Unfortunately, something went awry, and the result of that was the creation of an anomaly that led to merging of the two dimensions. What’s worse, all scientists that could reverse the damage were scattered around the nearby planets.

We assume the role of a pilot of the Nova research vessel that embarks on a mission to locate and rescue the eggheads, since only in this way can we eliminate the anomaly and separate the dimensions. While playing, we can visit a large set of alien planets. We are accompanied by a helpful artificial intelligence in our travels.

Mechanics

In the game, we explore two-dimensional levels that resemble maps from typical arcade productions, although the fact that we pilot the ship gives us more mobility. Most actions, including movement and combat, takes place in turns. At the same time, we have access to many special powers that let us manipulate the reality, for example, by turning on real time or completely stopping it. Similar effects are also activated by traps and some of our enemies.

The game doesn’t lack for strategic fights and arcade challenges, but the gameplay puts emphasis primarily on solving puzzles and many of those require us to creatively use our special powers. Another very important thing is gathering mechanical parts that we can use to enhance our ship and augment it with new features.
