The Dark Knight Rises is an action adventure game for AND, iOS and Windows Phone mobile devices, taking place in an open world. This game, developed by Gameloft studio - the creators of Spider-Man: Unlimited and Captain America: The Winter Soldier - is based on the license of The Dark Knight movie, directed by Christopher Nolan starring Christian Bale. The game was released in a premium model, although it offers a quite extensive microtransaction system.

Plot

Bruce Wayne, or Batman, becomes the number one enemy of the entire city of Gotham after he accepts the guilt for Harvey Dent's death. Hated by the locals, he locks himself in his estate, separated from the rest of the world. Meanwhile, Gotham faces an extremely serious threat. Bane, an extremely intelligent villain, hiding a secret connected with a woman named Miranda Tate, wants to punish sinners. Batman has no choice but to take matters into his own hands and once again pull the Gotham out of the grip of evil.

Gameloft's production follows the movie's plot. However, it does not recreate every scene - the story has been expanded with new situations and plot lines, and several selected key scenes have been thoroughly reworked (such as escaping from the well-prison). The French studio have obtained the rights to use the the main actors' faces.

Mechanics

The Dark Knight Rises draws a lot of inspiration from Rocksteady games, available on consoles and PCs - Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, especially from the latter. Gameloft has given us an adventure action game set in an open world. We can travel around Gotham freely (building interiors are available, too), taking advantage of the Batman's various inventions. The grappling hook is used for climbing buildings or elements in their interiors, batarangs help us eliminate enemies and solve simple logic puzzles, while the cape allows you to glide over long distances and stealth attack enemies from the air. The game also includes the Dark Knigh's futuristic machines - including a motorcycle (Batpod) and a fighter (Bat).

During the game, the player develops the Batman's abilities - each new level of experience allows us to unlock new skills, weapons, armor types, or upgrades for our vehicles (installation of guns) and gadgets (e.g. increasing the range of batarangs or the grappling hook's speed). All of this is useful during spectacular and dynamic battles with Bane's minions. Combat mechanics is based on solutions invented by the creators of Batman: Arkham City, putting a lot of emphasis on counterattacks and combos.

Game modes

The story presented in The Dark Knight Rises is presented in six main chapters, consisting of a total of 24 missions. They are complemented by side missions, which we perform while free roaming Gotham City. We disarm the bombs, blow up Bane's equipment, save the residents and remove snipers from the roofs. Besides that, the game also allows players to find collectibles, discover interesting locations and expand the Dark Knight's arsenal.

Technical aspects

The great advantage of the game is full three-dimensional graphics. Gotham City looks good thanks to its fancy architecture and dark atmosphere, but it also has good quality textures and considerable visibility. The graphics are complemented by great-looking character models, weather effects and interestingly designed interiors (metro tunnels, buildings, prisons). The advantage of The Dark Knight Rises for AND, iOS and Windows Phone is also the soundtrack done by Hans Zimmer, accompanied by fantastic voice-acting (unfortunately, the character's aren't voiced by the original actors from the movie). The game also uses a contextual control system, which adjusts the layout of the buttons to the given situation.
