Draknek is a small studio established by Alan Hazelden who worked on games like These Robotic Hearts of Mine, Traal, or Sokobond. Benjamin Davis, responsible for the game’s art style, and composer Ryan Roth also worked on A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build.

The Plot

The plot in A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build plays a marginal role and only serves as an excuse for playing. We take the role of a monster that builds snowmen.

Mechanics

Despite its simple premise, A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build for PC, AND and iOS can be rather gripping. Gameplay focuses on creating snowballs and setting them in the right order. Each snowman is made of three snowballs: the biggest one works as the base, the medium one is the snowman’s torso, and the smallest one is its head. Levels are rather small and very often filled with obstacles so we do not have that much of space to maneuver. We have to move our snowballs in a way that will allow us to gather as much snow as possible and place them in the correct order. What is interesting is the fact that we won’t have to always build our snowmen from scratch. Sometimes our snowy character is half-made but, for example, its head is in the wrong place so we will have to create a new ball of snow and fix the situation. From time to time we will also have to build two snowmen at the same time.
