Mechanics

Rust Bucket, released on AND and iOS, has no storyline. We simply play as a demon-possessed helmet of some unknown warrior moving through the next floors of dungeons full of traps, treasures and monsters, located in standard fantasy land. The game takes place in a turn-based system on maps consisting of square fields. The only possible movements are left-right and up-down and we do that by drawing lines on the screen. Enemies move simultaneously with us, and when our character stands, our enemies remain frozen.

We move through small maps and our task is to always get from the starting point to the stairs leading to the next floor. Along the way, we have to break vases containing valuable items, activate switches or mechanisms to open doors, collect keys, save innocent people and fight enemies. The battles are based on a simple mechanic. We eliminate enemies by simply bumping into them. However, we must initiate this movement ourselves, and if it is the enemy who bumps into us, then we will die.

In addition to direct confrontations, you can also lure enemies into traps. An additional attraction is the procedural generation of maps, so each time fresh challenges await us. The game always informs us with appropriate icons which move will end tragically for the hero. It all sounds a bit casual, but in reality Rust Bucket is very difficult and after just a few levels we reach maps requiring a lot of effort from us to complete them.
