Call of Duty: World at War - Final Fronts

A spectacular first-person shooter (FPS) set during the Second World War. The game was developed by Treyarch, Activision’s subsidiary. It’s three-chapter campaign spans across the years 1942-1945, being set on Southern Pacific and the Eastern front. We observe the events from the perspectives of three soldier (two Americans and one Russian), and we get to take part in such military operations as the defense of Stalingrad or the Battle of Okinawa. As usual in the Call of Duty series, the missions are heavily scripted to make the action seem more cinematic. Gameplay boils down to shooting sequences, in which we use a variety of historical weapons. In addition to a single player campaign the game also includes online multiplayer with new game modes: co-op and Nazi Zombie.

Call of Duty: World at War - Final Fronts is the PS2 counterpart of Call of Duty: World at War - another installment in the highly popular series of historical first-person shooters. In the previous chapters, except for the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and its sequel, we had the chance to visit villages and towns of Normandy, tasted the life of a Red Army soldier during the siege of Stalingrad, and felt the scorching sun of the North African desert. Call of Duty: World at War revisits the World War II setting featuring new theatres of operations.

The game includes four campaigns: War in the Pacific and Victory in the Pacific focus on the American marines fighting their way through island fortifications and the fanatical resistance of the Imperial Japanese Army - the PS2 version shares this part with other platforms, although featuring some plot changes - while the other two are available only on the PS2: The Winter Offensive, where the American and British forces move to relieve the city of Bastogne during the Battle of Bulge, and Victory in Europe, where you join the British and Canadian as they cross the Rhine river in an airborne operation near the end of the war, capturing the city of Wesel located in Ruhr district, and later, the American force tasked with capturing Hitler's birthplace in Austria.

In contrast to the other versions, Final Fronts features a training level and focuses strictly on single-player campaigns, having no multiplayer whatsoever. The game's development was outsourced to British developer Rebellion, and it employs a different game engine that the versions developed by Trayarch.
