Pro Evolution Soccer 2018

PES 2018

Another annual entry in the popular soccer series by Konami. Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 develops the ideas from the previous game. Real Touch +, a new system that is responsible for how players handle a ball, now takes more body parts into account. Thanks to that we can see animations that are much more different from each other when players receive a ball, hit it with their heads, dribble etc. Another important change is that matches are now slower which makes the game a little bit more realistic. In addition to that there is also a strategic dribbling which gives more control over a ball and improved set pieces. Besides classic game modes, PES 2018 also brings back Random Selection Match mode which now has more options. Also, the game offers an online co-op mode for two or three people. The graphics are much better when compared with the previous games which means that the game on particular platforms aren't that different from each other.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 is another annual entry in one of the most popular series by Konami. The game, released on PlayStation 4, improves the mechanics from the 2016 edition and was created on the principle of "more and better". This means that the developers introduced new game modes as well as improved the mechanics and graphics. The graphics are much different when compared to past gen versions the image is clearer and textures are sharper; players' models were changed and the game has better lightning. However, there are almost no differences between PS4 and Xbox One versions because they are virtually the same. Owners of PlayStation 4 that have the FC Barcelona Edition received a theme with the titular team.

Mechanics

Pro Evolution Soccer 2018, released on PlayStation 4, improves the ideas from the previous game. Konami's developers introduced Real Touch +, a new system that is responsible for how players handle a ball. Although the system was already available in the series, now, it takes more body parts into account. In addition to that there is also a strategic dribbling which gives more control over a ball and improved set pieces (penalties and free kicks).

Game modes

Besides classic game modes, such as leading your team throughout an entire season, the game also has a few new ones. We finally can play an online co-op mode for two or three people. Also, Random Selection Match mode is back and has more options. In this mode we select a few teams and then the game selects random players and mixes them into one team.

Technical aspects

Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 offers better graphics when compared with the previous games. Thanks to the Real Capture technology the animations of players are much more realistic. Also, the models of players were changed they are now more polished, soccer kits fit players better and when it comes to teams that cooperate with the developer (e.g. FC Barcelona) we can even see the players' tattoos. Besides that the game offers better-looking stadiums, fields are recreated more faithfully and have better lightning for matches played in the middle of a daytime and in an evening.

Misc.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 also offers integration of PES League with myClub modes, online co-op and Random Selection Match. The user interface and menus are also changed.

In the last few years, the FIFA series by Electronic Arts was definitely the more popular soccer series. However, after a temporary setback, Konami is back on the right tracks with good releases in Pro Evolution Soccer series for Xbox One Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2017. As expected, Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 doesn't turn the formula upside-down, but it offers improvements on already known mechanics. But all those new features can only be experienced Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC Windows. The game, released on Xbox One, was developed by the same developer team that is responsible for versions available on Sony console. There are almost no differences between these two versions.

For years, the versions of Pro Evolution Soccer for PC Windows and the consoles were virtually different games. While the mechanics featured on the consoles were mostly implemented into the PC version, it was noticeably inferior in terms of the graphics. Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 stopped this trend and now the PC Windows version offers the same experience as the current-gen consoles. In addition to that only those players that own a PC Windows, PS4 or Xone received the FC Barcelona edition of the game that contains agents (that can be used in, for example, myClub) and the virtual currency.

Pro Evolution Soccer is one of the most popular series of sports games. Also, the series is FIFA's only competitor with which Konami (publisher of Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid) has to compete each year to win soccer fans' money and hearts. Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 is another game in the series released on Xbox 360. Just like in the previous titles, this one also offers various soccer teams and national ones, although in many cases players can notice the lack of licenses, which for years have been in Electronic Arts' possession. The game offers single and multiplayer modes as well as training, which can help players to improve their skills.

This version of the game doesn't have all the elements that are available on newer consoles and PC Windows. Also, the graphics are visibly worse.
