“Metro: Last Light” is a first person action game created by 4A Games, accountable for the previous installments. The plot is based on a series of novels created by a Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky.

The action takes place in the nearest future, in a world ravaged by a nuclear apocalypse. Most of the cities were destroyed and their inhabitants died. Only small groups managed to survive, including several thousand people who were in the Moscow subway, being the largest fallout shelter, when the bombs ruined the Russian capital. Over the years, the survivors created their own underground community, while on the surface ubiquitous radiation mutated animals turning them into monsters attacking last bastions of humanity. You play as Artem, the protagonist known from previous part. “Metro 2033” offered two different endings and the developers had to decide which of them would be canonical. They chose the pessimistic path.

“Metro: Last Light” is a first-person action game. For most of the time you have to break through linear levels and shoot at the enemies. Additionally, there are sections where the best tactic is to remain quiet while eliminating the enemies. The developers included some elements of survival horror games. This means that players often have not enough ammo and levels were designed to terrify players.

Compared to the first part this game offers more spacious locations, where different tactics can be applied. Moreover, players have several paths to reach the destination place. Sneaking sections are improved as well, along with opponents’ AI and the dynamic of fights. The arsenal of available weapons is far greater. It is worth noticing that fight does not dominate over the survival horror elements known from the previous part. The proportion between those two styles remains the same.

The game runs on improved version of 4A-Engine, a powerful technology used for creating the previous game. One of the new graphics feature is natural presented fire. Each material burns at its own intensity, e.g. the flames quicker digest cardboard boxes than wood. Moreover, “Metro: Last Light”, in contrast to the previous one, offers not only a single-player campaign, but multiplayer mode as well.
