Baja: Edge of Control HD

A remastered edition of the 2008’s racing game, developed by 2XL Games. In comparison to its original, Baja: Edge of Control HD features a number of changes and upgrades, the most prominent being the improved visuals (the HD edition features a higher resolution, new models of some of the textures, more detailed surroundings, and dynamic lighting), facilitations at the initial stages of the game, as well as remodeled controls and interface. The core of the game, however, remains unchanged – in Baja: Edge of Control HD players get to participate in thrilling off-road races while driving one of the dozens of vehicles: 4x4 cars, cross-country vehicles, racing trucks, and much more. What is worth mentioning, the vehicles have not only been modified in terms of their performance and appearance but also can now be damaged. The vehicle handling model now promises a more simulation-focused approach than the arcade-based model from the original game. Apart from the single player mode, Baja: Edge of Control HD delivers a multiplayer mode, in which players can race each other online or on a split screen.

Baja: Edge of Control HD is a remastered version of the original game, initially released in 2008 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The new edition has been developed for PC / Windows players and features enhanced visuals while retaining the gameplay mechanics and many other aspects intact. The game now runs at a higher resolution (depending on the device it can reach even 4K), more appealing textures, more detailed surroundings, improved lighting, and modified dust effects.

Some small changes have been implemented throughout the game, e.g. the facilitations available for the players at the initial stages of the game, as well as modified controls and interface. The remaining aspects of the game reflect what players know from the original game.

Mechanics

The PC / Windows release of Baja: Edge of Control HD delivers a thrilling off-road racing experience. Creators prepared over a hundred different tracks and several open areas players can traverse in the Free Roaming mode. Apart from traditional challenges and races, the game features other opportunities to test our driving skills, e.g. Hill Climb here, the goal is to climb a very steep slope.

The four-wheeled monsters players get to drive are well adjusted to particular types of terrain. For a race, one can select to drive a 4x4 car, racing truck, cross-country vehicle or any other vehicle from one of the 8 available categories, each comprising dozens of diversified cars. Each vehicle can get damaged during a race, however, players can fix them in between the races.

All machines can be modified both in terms of their performance and appearance. Players get at their disposal several hundred car parts, which one can find in the real world. Interestingly enough, the vehicle-handling model delivered by Baja: Edge of Control HD features a more simulation-focused nature in comparison to the arcade model from the original release.

Game modes

The single player mode is just the beginning of having loads of fun. Baja: Edge of Control HD features a multiplayer mode, in which one can race each other online or on split screen (up to 4 players at the same time).
