Supreme Ruler: The Great War for PC / Windows is a real-time strategy game which requires the player to manage the entire country. The game was created by BattleGoat - a Canadian studio that has produced all the previous installments of the series.
As the title suggests, the player is taken to the World War I period, which happens for the first time in this franchise. The game begins in 1914, but the player can lead their country through over a hundred years.
Mechanics-wise, Supreme Ruler: The Great War for PC / Windows was based on the fundamentals of the predecessing titles. As a result, the player receives an RTS game with a holistic approach towards the issues of leading and managing a country. Apart from fighting wars and commanding battalions during battles, the player has to develop economy, take care of trade, as well as both diplomacy and espionage. The game features an extensive technology tree, which simulates over a hundred years of development. Also, the game stands out with the number of different kinds of forces included - those recreate historic armies in a realistic manner. Another crucial part is played by the in-game weather system, as the course of a particular battle is affected by it.
Similar to its predecessors, the game simulates the so-called "butterfly effect", so all the player's decisions and actions affect the course of events in the entire world and spark reactions of artificial intelligences in control of the remaining countries. All of this makes the experience very complicated, but one is capable of placing virtuak subordinates in charge of certain tasks. As a result, both those who like to make even the smallest decision their own and those that focus only on things of highest importance can find what they like here.
In the single-player open-world mode, the player is free to choose a nation and terms of victory. Apart from that, the game brings campaigns focusing exclusively on the titular war, as well as numerous smaller scenarios with different goals - those should be especially interesting for players that prefer quick sessions.
Supreme Ruler: The Great War for PC / Windows offers a multiplayer experience as well; up to sixteen players can meet in one session (online or LAN).
