Graceful Explosion Machine

A classic 2D shoot'em up action game, created by Vertex Pop and released on Nintendo Switch. Graceful Explosion Machine allows players to fly a futuristic space ship. The titular GEM is an advanced, well-equipped vehicle whose pilot is stuck deep in space. In order to find his way back he must face a horde of aggressive Aliens. The game is presented from a side view and we must constantly move right throughout more than 30 levels located in four different worlds. Our main goal is to eliminate the subsequent enemy hordes which can be done by using four different types of weapons: blaster, rocket launcher, energy sword and sniper beam. The key to success is to be able to change your weapons accordingly to a situation, perform dodges and counterattacks.

Plot

Graceful Explosion Machine allows players to fly a futuristic space ship. The titular GEM is an advanced, well-equipped vehicle whose pilot is stuck deep in space. In order to find his way back he must face a horde of aggressive Aliens.

Mechanics

Graceful Explosion Machine uses a side view perspective. During the game we must keep moving right and go through more than thirty levels located in four different worlds. Regardless of the place in which we are currently in our main goal is to eliminate hordes of enemies. During the game we can use four types of weapons blaster, the basic weapon that shoots in bursts, rocket launcher, useful mostly when facing groups of weaker enemies, an energy sword, that eliminates enemies that are closer by emitting energy beam that spins around the ship and a sniper beam which is a laser with a great range. The key to success is to be able to change your weapons accordingly to a situation, perform dodges and counterattacks. All our actions are monitored by scoring system that is rates our every move charging a special multiplier gives us a chance to top the current record.

Technical aspects

Graceful Explosion Machine, released on Nintendo Switch, distinguishes itself by using colorful 2D graphics with an unusual style that incorporates geometrical shapes. A dynamic, electronic soundtrack is also worth mentioning.
