Gundam Versus for PlayStation 4 is another installment in the fighting game series popular among Japanese amusement arcades. The game allows a player to assume the role of a pilot operating dozens of mecha (giant robots) known from TV series, movies, and comic books from Gundam universe. The game has been published by Bandai Namco. Gundam Versus has been announced in 2016 and unlike other games, such as Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. and Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. Full Boost, which were ported versions of the original arcane games, Gundam Versus is designed solely for PlayStation 4. Creators used their experience acquired while working on previous installments, as well as a completely new graphics engine.
In Gundam Versus one gets to control over 90 models of mecha featured in 17 TV series and movies released within 40 years of brand’s existence. The game does not feature an original story mode, however one is bound to recognize some pilots known from both TV series and the big screen hits, which are dubbed by the original voice-actors. Additionally, some of the missions and scenarios recreate the most important moments from particular episodes and movies.
Gundam Versus is a complex 3D fighting game. One gets to control powerful mecha specializing in various types of attacks and featuring formidable combat skills. Players can observe the action from a third person perspective. In the basic game mode, the fights take place in closed arenas, on which 2 teams (2 players per team) wage battles against each other. Apart from the standard range of moves (jump, run, etc.), one can hit complicated combos and use some spectacular moves. Depending on the chosen model, mecha feature different type of armor and weaponry – cold steel, energy weapons, rockets, etc. Before a fight, players can choose one of the two available special attacks they can use during a match, as well as the mecha serving as instant support that one can summon several times during a fight.
Producers of Gundam Versus give at our disposal some diverse game modes dedicated for one player, as well as many players. Lonely pilots can fight AI-controlled mecha, both in single matches and arcade mode, in which one participates in a series of battles – each one more difficult than the previous one. The game also delivers a, typical for fighting games, training mode.
For the online fighting fans there are ranked matches allowing players to acquire new levels in world ranks. Apart from 2v2 matches, one can participate in the 3v3 battles, as well as the cooperative mode in which players can join their forces to fight off enemy waves or an extremely durable boss.
Gundam Versus is based on a proprietary game engine, which ensures smooth gameplay at 1080p and stable 60 FPS.
