A continuation of the well-received Bullet Soul published in 2011. Initially, the game has been published on Xbox 360, however, after some time the developers also released the PC / Windows version of the game. Both editions have been developed by Tachyon.

Plot

The X360 and PC release of Bullet Soul: Infinite Burst picks up certain elements of the story presented in the first installment of the series. Once again, players have to face the powerful forces of the evil Mecha-war empire, which is planning to conquer the outer space. The main objective is to rain on enemy’s parade with the help of four fearless characters: Zenichi, Yun, Sadahl, and Loop.

Mechanics

Like its predecessor, Bullet Soul: Infinite Burst is played in a top-down perspective. During combat, a player gets to control one of four available battle starships and engage in battles that require flying upwards and eliminating hordes of enemies shooting at the main protagonist with everything they have got – this applies to both minor enemies appearing in formations and powerful bosses. To defeat the latter ones, one has to prove their reflex and come up with successful tactics.

Player’s actions are monitored by the scoring system – one can improve his score by activating the special Combination Mode, in which defeated enemies leave coins behind them; in order to activate this mode, a player has to fill the Burst Gauge bar by taking out squadrons of adversaries.

Game modes

Bullet Soul: Infinite Burst comprises several game modes – apart from the standard mode called Normal, in which a player completes consecutive stages of the story campaign, there is i.a. the Caravan mode (known from the first installment), in which one attempts to achieve best time score, as well as Bancho Mode, which allows players to develop their skills.

Interestingly enough, one can play alone, as well as in cooperative mode with one additional player.

Technical aspects

The 2D visuals featured by the X360 and PC release of Bullet Soul: Infinite Burst are pleasing to one’s eye, especially due to its appealing cartoonish style. One is also bound to appreciate the ear-catching soundtrack written by Kenji Ito, Kohto Takanashi, and Jake Kaufman.
