Sword Legacy: Omen is a tactical RPG developed by Firecast Studio. The game was published by Team17 (the devs of, among others, the best-selling Worms series). The source of inspiration for the devs were mainly the classics of the genre, such as Final Fantasy Tactics and the XCOM series.

Story

The story told in Sword Legacy: Omen is based to some extent on Arthurian legends. The game takes the player on a journey to the land of Britannia, torn apart by internal disputes and consumed by the plague decimating its inhabitants. Britannia consists of the smaller kingdoms of Mercia, Northumbria, England, Kent, and Wessex. The first of these is dominated by Lord Leof, who tried to maintain peace and ensure the well-being of his subjects at all costs. Unfortunately, not everyone shared his goals and the king was finally murdered.

Burning with revenge, Uther, his faithful servant and one of the bravest knights of Britannia, begins a private vendetta and sets out to search for the legendary sword Excalibur, as according to ancient prophecy, only the owner of this blade shall end all the problems that afflict Britannia once and for all. The hero is not alone in his quest, as he is accompanied by the eccentric sorcerer Merlin, and with time other daredevils join them - the modest farmer Duanne, the thief Gwen, monk Felix, the barbarian Fergus, the horned archer Flint and the dwarf Gorr.

Mechanics

In Sword Legacy: Omen the action is shown in isometric view. In the course of the game we travel through different locations - the expedition leads us through the aforementioned kingdoms, different in terms of climate and dominant architecture, as well as attitudes towards our team. As the adventure progresses, the protagonists gain experience and thus increase their combat potential.

In addition to talking to NPCs and carrying out their tasks, an important role is played by combat. As in the aforementioned XCOM series, battles take place in turn-based system, and during the battles, it is as important to have sufficiently strong team to develop effective tactics based on the individual abilities of the heroes. Uther and Fergus are great at first-line combat, Flint (archer) and Felix (healer) are excellent at supporting allies from a safe distance, while Gorr uses his skills to build temporary fortifications and traps. Sometimes it is also a good idea to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the environment - setting barrels with gunpowder on fire may result in an explosion immediately removing some enemies from this world.

Technical aspects

Sword Legacy: Omen is powered by the Unity technology - original design and rich colors effectively mask certain deficiencies in the level of detail; cutscenes made in a characteristic cartoonish style also draw attention. It is worth noting that despite the fairy-tale environment, the game is extremely brutal - the characters cut their opponents into pieces, and fountains of blood accompanying death are a frequent sight.
