So Let Us Melt is an unusual game that could be also called an interactive experience. The title was released on PC and it was developed by the famous independent studio The Chinese Room – the creators of well received Dear Esther and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. It is worth mentioning that it is the first game created by this developer for virtual reality sets.

Plot

The story of So Let Us Melt spans across dozens of millions of years. The main protagonist of the game is Custodian 98. He and many other drones like him are tasked with transforming the atmosphere of the planet in such way that it becomes inhabitable for the creatures currently residing in the underground Polar City. The protagonists are terraforming the world, gradually filling it with life. However, things become more complicated when an unknown star appears on the sky and threatens the whole operation.

Mechanics

So Let Us Melt for PC is a game very different from the previous games developed by The Chinese Room. Instead of a typical walking simulator, the developers created a game in which player only observes actions of Custodian 98 from the third-person perspective. It is impossible to freely move through the visited locations, player can only occasionally interact with his surroundings. The game is divided into chapters – completion of a single chapter usually takes less than ten minutes.

As mentioned before, the game was developed for virtual reality sets and it requires them to work. Thanks to that the player can look around the surroundings by moving his head. The objects to interact with can be selected with a motion controller.

Technical aspects

So Let Us Melt features simple, three-dimensional graphics. They use abstract style. This has a positive impact on the experience of playing the game. The title also features exclusively composed, climatic soundtrack.
