Perfect

Allumette is a position that should be considered more as an interactive film than a typical video game. The title was developed by the independent team at Penrose Studios; it should be noted that it requires VR goggles to work.

Story

The story told in Allumette is loosely inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Little Match Girl. While playing, we follow the fate of an orphaned girl living in a city located in the clouds. The story is presented in the form of successive flashbacks - the protagonist lights up matches, thus evoking memories from her life. During this unique screening of sorts, the completion of which is a matter of several dozen minutes, the player learns not only about the relation between the girl and her mother, but also about what led to their separation.

Mechanics

While playing Allumette the players are not able to interact with the environment or characters. They can only play the role of an observer who can freely look around the locations (this also applies to looking through the walls into the interiors of buildings) and focus attention on various elements of the scene.

Technical aspects

Allumette boasts eye-catching three-dimensional visuals in cartoonish style. A separate mention should be made of the fact that the story is conveyed without words - the players can read the emotions of individual characters from their facial expressions and the tone of their murmurs, while the appropriate mood is built up by the soundtrack.
