Fallen Legion+ for PC / Windows consists of two games: Fallen Legion: Sins of an Empire and Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellion. Both titles were developed by YummyYummyTummy, an independent American studio known from numerous educational games.
Fallen Legion: Sins of an Empire tells the story of Cecille – a princess reigning over Fenumia in absence of her deceased father. Cecile has access to a mysterious, intelligent book that contain the secret of inscribing life into steel weaponry. Unfortunately, it turns out that the kingdom isn’t that safe as it once was, forcing the queen to take up arms and face the danger.
Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellion tells the same story… from a different point of view. This time, we assume the role of Legatus Laendur, a traitorous general who attempts to destroy the kingdom of Fenumia. The events of both games intertwine in key spots, creating an unique story which has to be experienced on one’s own.
The action of Fallen Legion+ for PC / Windows is seen from a side-scrolling perspective (in 2D) that is reminiscent of classic beat-em’ups such as Golden Axe or Double Dragon. However, in opposition to the aforementioned titles, Fallen Legion is an action RPG with a combat system similar to the one encountered in Valkyrie Profile – the player has access to a few characters at the same time. Each of the available heroes is equipped with a wide range of useful abilities – using them is the main challenge of the game.
Action sequences are entwined with animated cut-scenes that develop the story of each game. Interestingly enough, the choices undertaken in the course of the cut-scenes unlock special cards that are utilized on the battlefield, offering various power-ups such as healing or resistance boosts.
Fallen Legion+ offers handdrawn visuals which are characteristic for their manga style (interestingly enough, the game was developed by a Western developer). Both heroes and backgrounds are colorful and richly animated.
