Cyberia is an action adventure game developed by Xatrix Entertainment and published by Interplay.

Story

Cyberia takes us on a journey into the near future. In 2027, five years after another major economic crisis, the world is divided into two spheres of influence - the West is controlled by First World Alliance and the East is in the hands of the so-called Cartel. When the leader of the former faction learns that a secret research complex in Siberia is working on a new weapon of mass destruction, he decides to send the main character, hacker Zak Kingston, to confirm the reports. The protagonist's task is to infiltrate the database known as Cyberia Complex and obtain information on the activities carried out in the facility.

Mechanics

Before we start playing Cyberia we can choose the level of difficulty of puzzles and arcade elements. The gameplay formula is based on several pillars. The first one is the exploration, during which we control Zak directly, observing his actions from predefined angles. From time to time, the protagonist must confront enemies using firearms and traps or sneaking past them.

The second aspect of the game is solving logic and environmental puzzles, which enables us to break into terminals or even disarm bombs. Helpful in unraveling the puzzles is a tool called BLADES, which enables us to scan a specific object using infrared rays (for example, to discover fingerprints invisible to the naked eye) and magnetic resonance (which allows the hero to look inside a device).

From time to time we can also sit in gun towers, from which we shoot at approaching adversaries, as well as fly in the skies in various vehicles. In the case of the latter, however, the speed and direction of flight are imposed by the creators, and we can only shoot at the opponents.

Technical aspects

At the time of its release Cyberia boasted high quality graphics - it was one of the first productions clearly inspired by cinematography, which manifested itself primarily in the varied shots from which we observed the action. The soundtrack that accompanied us in our adventure also deserved attention.
