Need for Speed: The Run

Another installment in one of the most renowned racing game series developed by Electronic Arts since 1995. In contrast to the previous installment, the game was developed by EA Black Box - an internal studio of the American company. The story is centered around the eponymous coast-to-coast race across the United States. Winning this huge event is the only way for the protagonist to obtain money required to pay his debt to a dangerous criminal organization. In the game, the player has to complete different racing challenges, and the story campaign features quick-time events for the first time in the entire series. The relatively short story campaign is complemented by a set of separate challenges. These require the player mostly to drive on twisted mountain roads, sometimes buried under avalanches. Impressive visuals have their source in the Frostbite 2 engine, popular mainly for being used in the Battlefield series.

Need for Speed: The Run for Nintendo Wii is another installment in the well-known series of racing games, which returned over the years in many different forms. Players were given both typical arcade productions (Hot Pursuit) and titles that placed greater emphasis on aspects of simulation (Shift 2 Unleashed). The Run belongs to the first category and provides a good portion of adrenaline, enriched with a rather unusual solutions for the racing genre.

In Need for Speed: The Run for Nintendo Wii the players assume the role of a man named Jack, who owes money to a criminal organization known as The Mob. The protagonist can pay off the debt by winning an illegal and dangerous race taking place on the route from San Francisco to New York. Jack has no choice but to take part in this crazy competition and reach the finish line first. After all, his life depends on it.

The illegal race through the United States was divided into extremely varied sections. You race on the streets of such cities as San Francisco, New York, Las Vegas, Denver, and Detroit. The competition takes place not only in large cities, but also in narrow canyons or snow-covered mountain slopes. The creators made a total of 325 km of roads modeled on real locations.

A big surprise and novelty in The Run are scenes where we leave the car. These types of sequences are extremely dynamic and were implemented using the popular quick-time events. The player must then press the appropriate key combinations and thus push the action forward. With fragments of pedestrian game stands out from the competition and at the same time gains more film-like atmosphere.

Need for Speed: The Run for Nintendo Wii is powered by Frostbite 2 engine, which was used, among others, for the production of Battlefield 3. There is also Autolog system, known from previous Need For Speed game. The technology keeps track of network statistics and compares them with the achievements of other players.
