Burnout Paradise

The full-fledged sequel to the series of racing games started in 2001 by Criterion Games. The game takes place in the fictional Paradise City, which consists of an island with an airport, a bay with skyscrapers and hills that are free of any infrastructure. The game combines dynamical driving with impressive crashes and breaking the traffic regulations in a way that is typical for the series. Burnout Paradise slightly refreshes the classic formula of the series. One of the main novelties is taking the action to an open world across which one can move freely, completing various challenges. In contrast to the previous games, the gameplay concentrates slightly more on typical races while the Crash Mode (here called Showtime) known from the previous installments is only an addition which can be activated at any moment of the game. The title uses a completely new driving model and physics engine which is responsible for damage model of the vehicles.

Burnout Paradise for PlayStation 3 is the next installment of the extremely popular racing games. The title was at first released for the seventh generationís consoles (PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) and then for PC.

Gameplay

The game takes place on the large area of Paradise City Ė a fictional metropolis which contains, among other things, an island with an airport, a bay with skyscrapers and hills that are free of any infrastructure. The playerís task is mostly spectacular driving and breaking the traffic regulations. One can drive against more than thirty various rivals and unlock new vehicles while progressing in the game. The vehicles arenít licensed, but they are based on such cars like American muscle cars (for example the Ford Mustang) and European machines like Ferrari Enzo. During the races the player has great freedom of movement and he should look for shortcuts. Of course, it is very enjoyable to play the game with other players through the Internet.

Technical aspects

The developers decided to refresh the classic gameplay formula by using technology that was used never before. Most of all, the physical engine was greatly improved and now it lacks any scripts and affects all three-dimensional objects. In addition to that, the number of pieces of the virtual vehicles that can be destroyed was increased to almost one hundred. This allows the players to, for example, cut the car in half or change a coupe into a cabriolet.
