The Settlers II: 10th Anniversary

The Settlers II: 10th Anniversary is a modern remake of the most popular installment of the cult strategy series The Settlers, released as the celebration of the game's tenth anniversary. Developers from Blue Byte studio created a new 10 mission campaign where we lead Romans who seek new lands in order to restore the fallen Empire. Our job is to systematically develop our country by building more and more outhouses and residential and military buildings that will provide us with resources, food, and soldiers. The game also offers a multiplayer mode for up to six players. The remastered version of The Settlers II uses the same engine as the fifth game in the series, though the developers managed to keep the fairy tale-like atmosphere of the original game. Models of all buildings and settlers are based on their original design. In order to enrich the game, some new features were introduced.

The Settlers II: 10th Anniversary is a remastered edition of the second installment in the popular strategy game series. This game was prepared by German company Blue Byte Studios for the 10th anniversary of the original one, released in 1996.

The story of the remastered edition is no different than in the original game. After the fall of the Roman Empire, many leaders decided to set off for a long seafare in search of a land where a new state could raise. One of them is Nautius, who set a small colony, after he landed in an unspoiled land. Easy to guess, the laborious task of transforming the small village into a huge empire falls on the player’s shoulders.

The Settlers II: 10th Anniversary offers a campaign consisting of 10 missions, in which you follow set objectives. These may include finding an ancient gate or eliminating a rivaling nation, who just like the Romans, are trying to develop their country in your neighborhood. Among the potential enemies there are aggressive Africans and merciless Asians. Apart from the traditional campaign, the game offers single scenarios, also playable online. Up to six people can compete together.

The gameplay focuses on steady progression of your kingdom. You construct new buildings, providing all the needed materials. Because resources run out fast, you have to take care of new sources of materials, and process the supplies in appropriate manufacturing plants. All buildings are interconnected with a network of roads used by the settlers for moving objects from one place to another. There are 31 buildings and factories in total, as many resources, 25 jobs for the settlers, and 5 military units that can help in taking new territories from other nations.

Although the game runs on the engine used in the previous, fifth installment in The Settlers series, the authors managed to maintain the original fairytale style of the original game. The new edition is very colorful and is bound to appeal to all those who have warm feelings for the original game.
