Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Deus Ex 3

The third installment in a series of cyberpunk action games with RPG elements. The franchise was launched in the year 2000 by Ion Storm, led at the time by Warren Spector. The reactivation of the series was made possible by the Eidos Montreal studio. Story-wise, the game is a prequel to the original series, taking us back to the year 2027, when Sarif Industies only begins to explore the possibilities of biomechanical augmentation of the human body. You assume the role of Adam Jensen, the company's chief of security, who gets seriously injured when an unidentified armed force suddenly attack the company HQ. Saved by a series of surgeries and mechanical implants, he decides to investigate the puzzling truth behind the events. Gameplay boils down to combat, exploration, and interactions with the environment. Of course, there are the also series’ landmark features, such as sneaking and hacking mini-games. Depending on the augmentations you choose to implant in the hero’s body and the skills they provide, each in-game problem can be solved in several different ways.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director’s Cut is the enhanced return to one of the most critically-acclaimed video game franchises. You play Adam Jensen, an ex-SWAT specialist who's been handpicked to oversee the defensive needs of one of America's most experimental biotechnology firms. Your job is to safeguard company secrets, but when a black ops team breaks in and kills the very scientists you were hired to protect, everything you thought you knew about your job changes.

Badly wounded during the attack, you have no choice but to become mechanically augmented and you soon find yourself chasing down leads all over the world, never knowing who you can trust. At a time when scientific advancements are turning athletes, soldiers and spies into super enhanced beings, someone is working very hard to ensure mankind's evolution follows a particular path. You need to discover where that path lies. Because when all is said and done, the decisions you take, and the choices you make, will be the only things that can change it.

- A divided near-future: discover a time of great technological advancement, but also a time of chaos and conspiracy. Mechanical augmentations of the human body have divided society between those who can afford them, and those who can't. Opposing forces conspire from the shadow to control the destiny of mankind: a human revolution is coming.

- A perfect mix of action and role-play: the game uniquely combines action-packed close-quarter takedowns with intense shooting, offering a vast array of character augmentations and upgrades for the many weapons at your disposal. Unlock new abilities and increase your stealth, social, hacking or combat skills: the game rewards all styles of play and approaches. Determine how you want your character to evolve, based on how you want to play the game.

- Choices and consequences: shoot your way through your enemies, sneak up behind them without being traced, hack systems to retrieve crucial information, or use your social skills to extract information from key characters - there are always choices, multiple approaches, multiple paths and multiple tools at your disposal. Choose your playing style and face the consequences of your actions: you decide how the story unfolds.

The Wii U GamePad provides the ultimate experience with 11 new Neural Hub features, including touchscreen hacking, interactive map editing, augmented sniping, smart vision plus, throwback explosives, inventory and augmentation management, and the possibility to play the entire game on the GamePad screen.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution for PC / Windows is the next installment in the famous action RPG series set in a cyberpunk vision of the future. The game is a prequel to its predecessors and was developed not by Ion Storm but by Eidos Montreal, although the story was written in cooperation with Sheldon Pacotti, the scriptwriter of the previous entries in the Deus Ex series. The production was also supported by Harvey Smith and Warren Spector, the developers of the original Deus Ex.

Story

The action of Human Revolution begins in 2027, in Detroit. We assume the role of Adam Jensen, chief security officer working at Sarif Industries, a company researching biomechanical augmentations. In the future, these enhancements will lead to the creation of nano-augmentations known from the previous installments of the Deus Ex series.

One day, the protagonist’s life is changed forever when a mercenary spec ops unit breaks into the Sarif Industries headquarters and raises hell. Jensen is badly wounded in the attack and falls into coma. When he wakes up, he discovers that he had been saved thanks to numerous operations and biomechanical modification of his body. The introduction is fully interactive, and we take an active part in it. After Jensen’s recovery, there is a complex intrigue waiting for us to solve.

Gameplay

The developers have tried to eliminate most aspects of Deus Ex: Invisible War which were complained about by the fans of the original Deus Ex, for example, a single type of ammunition for all weapons. At the same time, the four hallmarks of the series, i.e., sneaking, hacking, interacting with people, and combat, were preserved. This means that pretty much every situation can be approached in a number of ways, for instance, to enter an elite nightclub, we can bribe, kill or knock out the bouncer, sneak inside, or hack the backdoor. Of course, our abilities depend on the augmentations we possess, so one character cannot be specialized in all fields, and the player has to make a choice.

Implementing the aforementioned ideas required the developers to implement several systems. While sneaking, we can hide behind covers (which switches the perspective into the third-person), use optic camouflage, knock opponents out, and even drag their bodies around. Hacking panels and computers is presented in the form of simple arcade logic mini-games. Conversations with non-player characters resemble the solutions from Mass Effect – we are given a number of dialogue options that determine the protagonist’s expression. In combat, we make use of various weapons that can be easily enhanced. One of the significant additions is the fact that the strength-boosting augmentations now allow Jensen to break through walls and knock out opponents standing behind them.

Technology

Deus Ex: Human Revolution for PC / Windows boasts great graphics that operate with two colors in particular: gold and black. The colors symbolize the rebirth of human civilization (which is a reference to the Renaissance) and the dark and disturbing technology, respectively. What is interesting, the developers have included more of such clever symbolism in their game; one of those is the city layout which resembles a honeycomb. In this metaphor, people are nothing more than anonymous elements of a swarm that submissively follow orders.

System requirements

Recommended: Core 2 Quad 2 GHz, 1 GB RAM (2 GB dla Vista/7), graphic card 1 GB (GeForce GTS 450 or better), 8.5 GB HDD, Windows XP/Vista/7
