Montezuma's Revenge is an arcade game from 1984, which is considered to be one of the first platform games in the history of electronic entertainment. The product created by Robert Jaeger was originally designed for Atari consoles (2600/5200), but soon afterwards it was transferred to other hardware platforms, such as Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum and PCs.

The main character of the game is Panama Joe - an intrepid treasure hunter, who decides to penetrate one of the Aztec pyramids and get valuables stored there. The actual game starts when the daredevil enters a huge building and boils down to finding keys to open closed passages, killing enemies (including spiders, skulls and venomous snakes) with the help of swords found in the maze and collecting treasures. There are also some useful items in the game, such as torches that lighten up the darkness of some levels of the temple. The aim of the struggle is to reach the treasure chamber located in the lowest part of the huge complex.

Montezuma's Revenge is one of the most difficult representatives of its genre. Panama Joe can make very short jumps, which is why any attempt to bypass an opponent carries the risk of immediate death. Falls from high heights and cunningly placed traps, such as conveyor belts pushing the hero towards fire-filled pits, are also dangerous. Luckily, the player was given a few additional "live", prolonging the chance for ultimate success.
