Gears of War 3 X360

The third installment of the series of games that tell story of a war between humans and a mysterious army of Locust who lives in underground tunnels. Both this and the previous games in the series were developed by Epic Games studio whose face and main producer is Cliff Bleszinski.

Story

After destroying and sinking the city of Jacinto, the COG coalition is still fighting much stronger enemy forces. Among them, are many new enemies such as a giant monster with tentacles who is able to deal damage even to soldiers hiding behind the cover. Two friends, Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, together with other brothers in arms, start a journey to find Marcus’ father. Finding him will probably give humans the knowledge needed for getting rid of the Locust once and for all.

Game modes

The singleplayer campaign offers 31 missions during which the player can find 57 various collectibles. The adventure can be completed alone or in co-op mode that allows up to four people to play at the same time. It is a great progress in comparison to the previous installments of the series in which the campaign could only be completed solo or accompanied by one player.

Since the first installment, the series offers intense multiplayer battles, and the third entry doesn’t break that tradition. Among the new multiplayer modes there is Beast Mode which is similar to the well known Horde mode – except that this time the players become Locust. The roles change and the player’s task is to eliminate as many COG soldiers as possible. The battles take place in new locations such as Trenches where a sandstorm severely limits visibility. Among other maps there are Overpass, Mercy, Checkout and Trashball.

Gameplay

Gears of War is famous for the chainsaw rifle - the Lancer. In the third installment of the series, the player has access to classic version of that weapon improved with a couple of modifications. Among the other tools of destruction are also Retro Lancer, Sawed-off Shotgun and heavy sniper rifle - One Shot. The bullet shot by the latter is able to penetrate shields and covers behind which the enemy might hide. One can also use Incendiary Grenade, Digger Launcher and a slightly modified version of the popular Hammerburst. There are also heavy weapons such as Vulcan cannon and Silverback combat robot available. Every weapon works differently and has unique execution animation that can be triggered when close to enemy.
